Hey all.
So here's a tournament format we are toying around with for 40k. It's not for powergamers. It's not for min/maxers. It's for people looking for a change of pace in competitive playing. Yes, it's still competitive. It IS a tournament. It's just one that makes people think, forces new lists and really changes everyone's perspective on the game.
So, if you are someone willing to try something new, come on in...
Here is the idea, possible for Coulee Carnage (see previous posts): Four games at increasing levels: 1000, 1250, 1500, 1750
At each successive level you must keep the previous list and add to it, but never subtract! So you start with 1000pts. At 1250 you keep your ENTIRE 1000pts and add another 250. This can be whole new units or adding to existing ones. This follows again at 1500 (keeping your 1250 and adding 250) and at 1750.
So here's an exercise: Try this out and see what you come up with. Let's see what armies work well or bad at certain point levels and stretch our hobby brains a tad!
To start us off, here's my Chaos Daemons idea:
Fateweaver
3 Bloodcrushers: Fury of Khorne, Instrument of Chaos
3 Bloodcrushers: Fury of Khorne, Instrument of Chaos
7 Plague Bearers
7 Plague Bearers
Daemon Prince: Mark of Tzeentch, Bolt of Tzeentch, Daemonic Gaze, Instrument of Chaos, Unholy Might
At 1250
Add a Bloodcrusher to each unit
Add a Daemon Prince with Mark of Tzeentch, Bolt of Tzeentch, Daemonic Gaze, Instrument of Chaos
Add an Instrument to one Plaguebearer unit
At 1500
Add Icons to Each Bloodcrusher unit
Add 5 Horrors w/ Changeling and Bolt of Tzeentch
Add 5 Horrors w/ Bolt of Tzeentch
At 1750
Add a Bloodthirster
There we are, a bit of a faux Fatecrusher army. I noticed right away trying to use those 5 points, hence instruments on plaguebearers, for instance. Completely useless normally but I had 5 pts and couldn't really put it anywhere else.
Your turn!
Needs moar fiends.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, looks like fun, may steal this idea...
Yeah, I like fiends too, but not necessarily in a Fatecrusher list. They tend to be too fast to stay within the bubble effectively. Horrors, though, become insanely effective with a 4+ rerolling invul save.
ReplyDeleteI'd actually run this like Green Feevah runs his Biel Tan foot list. Everything surround the big guy!
I like my fiends to run with Tzeentch Chariots and flying princes.
Buuuut... since we showed us ours, you have to show us yours.
Not to burst your bubble, but I've told you many times now that that is not how I run my Biel-Tan foot list. My Avatar runs off on his own as a big fire magnet, usually running towards the big wall of tanks and transports. The rest of my army moves around to the sides in a pincher-like formation.
ReplyDeleteNot saying your list won't work that way, but I don't run my list that way, so don't single me out.
You definitely deploy that way, at least from my experience. Start everyone in the fearless bubble (except the flanking scorpions and I think your Dark Reapers) to make sure they get that benefit against a good shooting phase. Then they take up firebases or move off on their own as the game goes.
ReplyDeleteSame thing with Fateweaver, except even more centralized. He hides behind everyone, shoots tanks open and keeps everyone alive.
