Four guys who want to win at painting... AT ALL COSTS!

Change of Plans!

My best inspirations come in the shower.  I was thinking of all those little projects I wanted to get done in the next little bit, and honestly, I was feeling pretty blah about them.  So that got me to thinking: Well, when have I been most productive?  Deadlines always help, but do having a painting contest.  Maybe not the 'first place, second place' kind of contest, but more of the "Can I actually do this?" contest.  Like my Space Wolves, done just to prove an army could be painted from scratch by the deadline, or my Eldar, the first time to get things ready for a big Apocalypse game, the second time, to keep up points-wise with Wallshammer when he did his "Way-too-many Orks in a month" challenge.

And then it hit me: I need to push myself.  Finishing these little projects isn't pushing me, nor is painting more Space Wolves (I have enough painted for the league, and I'm not even enjoying the league = no motivation).

So, starting the day after Halloween, prepare yourself for:

NOVELDAR!

I'm going to get ALL the rest of my Eldar painted... in a month!

The gauntlet has been thrown down. Wallshammer, Fear... your move.

Time to Clean House!

I've put my Space Wolves projects on hold, and decided to finish up all those projects I've started this year but haven't finished.

So far I've gotten some sand on the bases of my Eldar Storm Guardians... yesterday wasn't my most productive day.

My plans though, are to finish those Guardians (and another squad I had started, which I half finished yesterday, so yesterday wasn't all bad), grey highlights on the blacks of the Rangers, finish the last model on that first tactical squad, freehand the banner on the sergeant fro that squad, finish the terminators, come up with a basing scheme for the Blood Ravens,  maybe work on the other 2 Tactical Squads, Attack Bikes and Dreadnoguht that are all half started too, and finish the highlighting and chipping on the Dakkajet, fix up the Trollbloods (speaking of chipping, but not the good, painterly kind).

I'll try to post some progress pics later today.

6th Edition Space Marine Tactica

... or How to Have Almost Every Advantage!

If you follow the blog, you'll know I'm more of a hobbyist than a gamer. I don't do a lot of gaming-related articles. Still, my Space Marine Tacticas, incomplete as they were, are some of our most highly read posts. And not that I'm doing this just to generate site traffic, but it sure don't hurt! Kidding. I've actually had this rattling around in my head for a while, so I figured I should put it on paper.

It all started with a post I did on out local forums, trying to help out a fellow team member for the league. Read it after the break:

WAAAAGH! Pictures!

Now that Old Man Feevah took some pictures of my army in his new light box, let's show 'em off.   Speaking of which, he should do a tutorial on how he built his.  It's pretty neat.

Come on in!

New Light Box, New Pictures!

So right after I posted, I got to work on my light box.  It's kind of a shoddy box, but it'll do.  And I need to come up with higher powered light solutions, as my pictures turned out kind of dark.  Not to mention that our camera is a piece of crap and wouldn't focus, so I had to take all the pictures with my cell phone.  So not the most auspicious start, but hey; in a pinch and all that.

So, wothout further ado, let me show you my work over the last several months.  I honestly thought I had more done than this, but then I remembered I traded off my Dwarfs, where I'd done a bunch more work, I stripped an entire Necron army, started painting it, then sold it (don't care for the Necrons), did a little work on my High Elves, but I'm going to save them for another post, and was out for a while from some big surgery.  Plus a full-time job.  Blah, blah, blah, you're not here for my life's story, you're here for the pictures!

We'll start off with my test models for a Vampire Counts army.

Ten "Pro" Painting Tips the Experts Never Tell You

I'm not going to do a big "I'm baaaack" post, I'm going to jump right back into the action.

Here is a list of important painting tips/habits that will make your projects more successful, but are usually things that are 'missed steps' when you look at online tutorials or videos.  Man, I should do a video... someday.

What does this picture have to do with the list?  Nothing, but it's friggin' awesome!  The list begins after the break:
