Back-to-Work Challenge - Day 2

Sadly I crapped out at the 2 and a half hour mark again, but I got a lot done before that.  I'm resting now, but I thought I'd share some quick pictures.

Back-to-Work Challenge Day 1

This has not gotten off to a good start.  Excepting of course the one-day delay yesterday, I managed to put in a whopping 2 and a half hours before my neck began hurting so much it's making me nauseous.  I never realized until today just how many breaks I take while I'm painting.

Back-to-Work Challenge Delayed

The start of my Back-to-Work Challenge is being delayed a day on account of real life.  More updates tomorrow.

A story of how my city burning down delayed my posting

So, the city where I live, Lethbridge, nearly burned down last night.  It really distracted my, obviously.

I was going to take some pictures of my marines but then got pretty distracted.  So, in lieu, tonight (hopefully if I don't get back too late from work) I am going to talk about my first round of our local escalation league, my thoughts on the army and my plans for 1500pts.

Shortest story ever...

A New Challenge Enters the Ring!

In light of recent events in my life, and since I just got a large influx of new models, I've come up with a new challenge for myself: The Back-to-Work Challenge!

Here's the back-story:  I haven't had a 'real' job in a few years.  I was injured and lost the ability to my my high-impact job, so began doing token paperwork and data entry.  But I'd hardly call it a real job.  Anyways, my wife and I are moving from Vancouver, because it's just getting too expensive to live here.  However, that means we'll be shutting down our business, and getting 'real' jobs once we move.  Now since I've been living on a pretty lax schedule for the last few years, I figure I need to re-learn how to be productive for long stretches of the day.  And to see how much my neck can tolerate, as a gauge of whether or not I'll be ready for full-time work.

Green Feevah No Longer! (Or Green Feevah Goes to the Dark Side)

I finally did it.  I got rid of my Orcs and Goblins.  And my Orks.  I'm out of the Orc/Ork game all together.  And while part of me is sad to see them go, I'm also pretty relieved.

I have, however, picked up quite a bit of new stuff.  I picked up a significant number of Vampire Counts, a large Chaos Marine Army and a large Necron army.  I'm officially in the villain business!

I'll throw more information up as I figure out what all I have, but it's a lot of stuff.

But a taste of things to come!

Back in the Saddle, Day Eight and Nine Report

Well unfortunately, life is still getting in the way of progress.  So I've gotten next to nothing done in the last two days.  I'm hoping to turn that around tonight, but we'll see what happens.

I started putting flesh tones on the Dawrfs, but then ran out of Tallarn Flesh. Grrr...

Back in the Saddle, Day Six and Seven Report

I've slowed down a bit in these last few days, but a lot of life stuff has been getting in the way of my painting.  Stupid life stuff...

But I have made progress nonetheless:

I got the Quarrellers bases sanded.  And the Warmachine crews.

I shoulda done orks!

Man, I went back and looked at some old posts.

a) I sure can be a whiny bitch at times.   Some of my responses to events at Mythacon were fairly crazy.  I stand by what I said for the most part, but it came off like whining.
b) I should have stuck with orks.  Looking back at what I did, I REALLY regret not doing them for the league now.

The TRUTH about "Counts As" and why everyone is wrong!

Yup, it's grumpy old man time!

I am about to complain about why "Counts As" is really grinding my gears lately.  I could be showing my army off or doing battle reports.  But no!  Time for negativity!  RAWR!  If you're up for some arguing, come on in!

Back in the Saddle, Day Five and Six Report

I don't know why these are becoming every other day reports, but that seems to be how I'm working at the moment.  I did get a TON of work done yesterday, and remembered to take photos this time.

What Happens When You Cross A Cat with Orcs and Goblins?

This:

That right there is over 7000 points of Orcs and Goblins air-drying after being PEED ON by my wife's f***ing cat.  I had them in a box, separated by type in plastic baggies, and the cat peed into the box, which was tucked under a shelf.  Which means the little bastard had to work to get his pee in there.

So I had to fill the tub, and dunk all of them to get the pee out.

I did have my revenge though.  Our cat likes to play in that same tub, and apparently forgot I had filled the tub.  So me and my wife are sitting downstairs, minding our own business, when we hear a VERY satisfying splash from upstairs.  The little bugger had jumped in to play in the tub, and got a face full of pee water.  Serves him right.

And I'm still calling out Walls.  You done been served, son.

Back in the Saddle Again, Day Three and Four Report

Sorry I didn't report yesterday, but my life got dealt a pretty harsh blow, and it's thrown everything I've been doing off-track.

Anyways, day three I got all of my great weapon Dwarfs's bases sanded and all the mould lines cleaned off the great weapons arms.  Then it started pouring, so I didn't get a chance to prime them.  As soon as the weather clears though.

Needless to say, I didn't get anything done yesterday.

Today I'm going to try to put the rest of the silvers on the Phoenix Guard and try to assemble the rest of the White Lions.  We'll see what gets done though, as I have a lot of non-painting, life stuff to deal with.

HOPEFULLY, Wallshammer will post some blog entries, you know, about the 1000 points of Silver Skulls he finished painting, or battle reports from his last four games with them.  *WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE*

(Aww yeah, that's right Walls, I'ma callin' you out!)

Back in the Saddle, Day One Report

So I didn't get as much done as I wanted, but not for lack of trying.  And I still did get a bunch done.  These Thunderers are actually painted from a days ago.  All I did was the metals and a wash on the metals.

I'm Back, Baby!

Having finally gotten all my non-painting stuff sorted out, I am once again returning to the brush.  I'm not entirely sure what I'm returning to, but I assure you that there will be lots of pictures involved.  Pictures like the old Ultramarines I did.  Only with new models:

An Exercise in List Building!

Hey all.

So here's a tournament format we are toying around with for 40k.   It's not for powergamers.  It's not for min/maxers.  It's for people looking for a change of pace in competitive playing.  Yes, it's still competitive.  It IS a tournament.  It's just one that makes people think, forces new lists and really changes everyone's perspective on the game.

So, if you are someone willing to try something new, come on in...

I'm Not Dead Yet!

I want to apologize for being very post-light this week.  I'm working on a whole bunch of non-painting stuff right now.  As soon as all that calms down, I'll post a bunch of new stuff.

Friday 4 November 2011

We're running a tournament!

Yup, you heard that right.  We here, along with some other locals, are going to run our first ever "real" big event. A 2 (possibly 3) day tournament, both fantasy and 40k.  We are looking at 20-24 participants for each event.

40k looks to be a fairly unique affair: an escalating tournament!  Four games at increasing point levels: 1000,  1250, 1500 and 1750 with some unique stipulations.

Fantasy will be a 2000 or 2400pt tournament, using a UK style comp system.

And, most importantly, we're doing this in concert with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.  We're going to raise all the funds we can!

We have a local store helping out and already have a first big name sponsor: Lone Wolf Development, makers of Army Builder!

Check it out at couleecarnage.blogspot.com!

Silver Skulls Tactical Squad in Progress

Fancy, ain't it!  This is the first color on their army, all boltgun metal.  The plan is to finish highlighting up, then clean everything else up with washes and what not.

Silver Skulls Librarian: "Complete"

I don't have pictures... sorry!  I can't find my camera but I can report, other then the basing which I am doing altogether at the same time, the librarian in my list is more or less finished!  Not entirely super happy, but not unhappy with it either.   I am just no good at painting flat surfaces!
