Four guys who want to win at painting... AT ALL COSTS!

Two Posts In One Night? It Must be a Full Moon!

This is a shorter post just to show some progress on painting... you know, since Wallshammer never posts any more *cough* *cough*.

I did some work on the White Lions, but assembly-line work is killing me.  It's just not my style.  I said a week ago I should just start finishing models... it's a damn shame I don't take my own advice.  Anyways, some Radiant Platinum was put down on the golds as an extreme highlight.  Not much work, like I said.

Then I went to work on the Varghulf some more.  Clean-up and a few highlights.  Not totally happy with how it came out, but I think I was rushing a little.  Maybe my head was just not into painting tonight... I don't know.

A Little Something Left Behind

Remember a while back Wallshammer was in a 40k Escalation league?  And he was doing Silver Skulls Marines?  Well I decided back then, that I would show my solidarity to him (and the Imperium) by painting Marines along side him.  Only I didn't tell him, or anyone, except my friend Dan.  I was going to reveal it when he finished his league.

However, half way through the league, Wallshammer discovered his undying, malevolent, hatred for Marines, and quit the army, quit the Escalation league, and sold off all the Marines he had.  It was a bad break-up.  Needless to say, in the aftermath of this, I dropped off on painting my secret Marine project.  I had played them a couple of times with Dan, but after 'the incident', I put them in a box, and basically forgot about them until I moved.

Then as I was unpacking, I caught Walls snooping through my boxes, where he discovered them.  The cat was out of the bag.

So I thought I would show you what I got done, and maybe it would inspire me to go back to them (because you know, I don't have enough projects).

Another Project Rises From the Grave... And More Work on the White Lions

Here has been the results of the last few days of painting.

I finished off the Vampire I was working on (I forget his name... he's one of the Von Carsteins.  I'll call him Chuck Von Carstein).  More or less happy with how he turned out.  I'm not totally jazzed about the blood on the sword, but I never really like how blood turns out on static models.  It just always seems so... painted on.

Gut check!

Irongut check that is!  You got it, I finished these babies up finally.

I apologize for the pictures in advance.   Not sure why they look all foggy.  Probably because I am tired and have blurry eyes.

Wait... what?

Now, to work on the rest of the army!

Small But Important Progress

Quick post:  I decided to start going straight to the finish with the models.  I did one as a test tonight.  Here it is:

And there you have it. Finished with all but the magic wash in the white (I need to brew up a new batch).  I hope to have a few more done tomorrow.

Looks Like I Suck at Posting Too!

Jeez, it's almost been a week.  I'll give the usual excuses... adjusting to working full-time with my neck busted, still getting over strep throat (It came back!  Yay!) blah, blah, blah...

Anyways, I haven't gotten much done this week, but I'll show you what I have gotten done.

So a little more done on the White Lions.  The first wash on the golds, the blacks, and the rest of the blues since last time (I think).  I have since dropped the Dragon Princes from my list, so I'm not going to finish painting them at this time.  Instead I added 2 chariots to my list, which I just finished the banner for the Lion Chariot last post, so there's some good news.

Sadly, this is all I've gotten done for my High Elves, but I have bombed around on a few other minis.  Join me after the break to see what I've been up to...

I suck at posting!

I am not sick, just lazy.

I HAVE been painting though, as well as practicing some more with the new army.  Come inside and see what I got.

Here's the Ironblaster first.  It's such a piece of... well... it's really hard to put together.  I tried some tartan on his bag, had to revamp his straps holding the cannon as well.   I am gonna go back and tone down the rust if I got a chance.

Big Update

Apparently lamenting about not getting anything done was a big motivator, because I got A LOT done afterwards.  I was a little scattered about what I was getting done, but every little bit helps.

These pictures are actually backwards of what I did this evening, but I was having weird camera problems, so rather than messing with things, I thought I'd just post.

So the LAST thing I got done was the banner for my Lion Chariot.  It's been sitting undone since well before I moved, and since I had dug out the chariot from my case to check the lion capes, I thought I might as well finish it.

Not Dead Yet (Though Not For Lack of Trying)

Just letting you know that I'm still kicking.  This Strep Throat is still kicking my ass hard, and back-to-back closing and opening shifts aren't helping.  I'm going to try to get a little done before bed tonight, but the last few days have been a wash.

Check in tomorrow.  I'll have more then.

Since Wallshammer won't.  'CAUSE HE'S LAZY!  OH YEAH, I SAID IT!  I'M CALLING YOU OUT... AGAIN...

Not As Much Progress

Slow night tonight.  I crashed pretty hard, this strep throat is kicking my ass.  But I did get the rest of the basecoat down on the lion cloak, a wash on them, and some blues done on the Dragon Princes.  Here's a couple of quick shots, then off to bed.  I gotta get some sleep and try to shake this.

The rest after the break:

Even Even More Progress (though not as much)

I wasn't expecting to get any progress made today at all, but I was feeling pretty sick after work, so didn't go game (Sorry Sean). But I did manage to pull it together for long enough to get a little bit of work done:

Like progress on my third Great Eagle:

Even More Progress

Regrettably, I had to call in sick to work today.  This strep throat is kicking my ass HARD.  However, I did manage to pull myself together for a little while this evening (I slept all day) to get some more work done.

First off, more work on the Archmage.  He's nearly finished now, but honestly I just puttered on him for a bit today.  I'll try to finish him up Thursday.

More Progress!

I only had a little time this morning to paint, but I tried to make the most of it.  I got good head way made on the Archmage.  The results are below:

Also, check my last post.  there's an edit at the end with more stuff I got done last night.

Check back in tomorrow for more.

Sunday 4 March 2012

Progress!

Well my idea of finishing 3-4 models a day has more or less fallen apart.  However, I did get a bunch of stuff done, so that has to count for something.

First off, I finished my second Great Eagle:

If you look, you can see the other one in the background.

More after the break:

Chaff for the win! More Ogre gaming in.

So, two more practice games under my gut plate last night.  One against another Ogre player, the other against the new Vampire books.   Come on in and find out what happened.

Hitting the Ground Running!

So right after my last post, I sat down and got to work.  It felt good.  Except for me being sick as a dog.  My apologies for the blurry pictures.

Here is almost everything I have to do in the next 28 days (missing only the eagles, as they were in my priming tray):

More after the break:

A Most Impressive Start... but not for me.

I have to commend Wallshammer.  He's really hit the ground running with these Ogres, and it shows.  I'm very confident he'll have the army done by month's end.

I'm not as confident in my own project however.  So small is my confidence that I just put the Necrons up for sale.  I just can't get into them.  They've been sitting on my table, silently mocking me for over a week now, with almost no progress made on them.  So, instead of lamenting about not getting them done, I'm going to switch focus...

I just recently put the Necrons up for sale on our local site (oh, did I forget to mention that?  I moved from Vancouver and am now just down the street from Wallshammer.  I also got a job, and strep throat.  It's been a busy few months, hence the no-posting) as well as a ton of Vampire Counts, those Lizardmen I started last Fall, and a ton of Chaos Space Marines.  And some Warmachine stuff.  This is all in an attempt to clear my work bench and get focused on making some actual progress.

Since the big move, it's been hard to sit down and get started again.  Plus this new job is really taking my to my limits.  I have a busted neck, which was why I had a lot of free time before, as I was only doing part-time book-keeping.  This is full time work, and it's really taking a lot of adjustment.  I'm home at the end of the day and all I want to do is lie down.  But all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so I really need to get back to painting, for peace of mind if nothing else.

So I'm going to go back to basics.  Eldar, High Elves and Dwarfs.  I have a TON of models to paint for each of those armies, and instead of getting distracted by shiny new projects, I'm going to focus on what I have.

To that end, I'm going to start with High Elves.  I have finally assembled and primed my 5 Dragon Princes and 20 White Lions, and add another Mage, 2 more great eagles, all my Sea Guard (50) and Phoenix Guard (20) and I have 2000 points.  Can I paint 103 models in 28 days?  Probably not.  But I'll do what I can and see how far I get.

Friday 2 March 2012

More done! Lots of production! Still crappy pics!

I "finished" a unit of 8 bulls today.  Looking at pictures I can see a few things to work on later if I got time after everything else is done.  More after the break!

Thursday 1 March 2012

OGRES! Pictures and some games.

Yeah, it's definitely hard to keep going on this blog.  You get working and forget about it.  I will try to keep this somewhat regular if I can.  So, inside we will see a couple pictures of what is done, and some talk about my first 2 games with these hulking boys.  Follow me inside!
